There’s some good news for fans of anime. The video game based on the popular anime series SWORD ART ONLINE, SWORD ART ONLINE Alicization Lycoris, has received a new trailer. Now, I know nothing about SWORD ART ONLINE, so I won’t even pretend to know how to pronounce that sub-title, or guess what it means. I can admit it has me intrigued, if only to know how it connects to the story in the game.
On Bandai Namco’s website, it defines Lycoris as “a species of flower found in the South of Japan which symbolizes passion, sad memories, reunion, and self-reliance.” It says that these themes will be evident in the storyline, and Alicization Lycoris will also allow “players [to] experience SWORD ART ONLINE’s anime storyline in game format.”
The player will control Kirito, and will be in a mysterious virtual world called the Underworld. It will feature intense JRPG battle action, great visuals and a large open world. Developed by Aquria, it will remain faithful to the original work. Kirito wakes up in a strange world, where he makes a promise with someone he meets. But he isn’t the only character returning– there will also be Eugeo (the someone he makes a promise with), Alice, and Administrator.
Like most games these days, interested gamers have a few selections from which to choose. The Standard Edition comes with 200 SAO coins, which is the in-game currency. The Deluxe Edition comes with a Premium Pass and the same 200 SAO coins; the Premium Pass will include “2 major expansions” and a special costume. If you pre-order either edition you get 4 design contest costumes, but only for a limited time.
SWORD ART ONLINE Alicization Lycoris is set to release on July 10th, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you plan to pre-order, you will have to do so almost immediately.
