During Nintendo’s E3 Livestream, Fortnite was announced for the Nintendo Switch. Shortly after release, news started circulating that players who have tied their EPIC Games account to the Playstation 4 copy of Fortnite, are not able to tie the same account to the Nintendo Switch version. This is due to a conflict with Sony, where the company will not allow users to sign on to other services using an account tied to their Playstation 4 account.
Understandably, the community spoke up loud and clear about their disappointments in the decision. Users are now forced to create new accounts in order to play the game on the Nintendo Switch, creating friction for Sony’s gaming sector. Sony decided to speak up on the matter to BBC, but their response is less than pleasing:
“We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. With… more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms. We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point.”
Epic Games’ Fortnite is cross-platform capable between the Nintendo Switch, PC, Mobile, and Xbox One versions of the games, but Sony still resists bringing the community together in this way. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments below.
