Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U’s production will be ending “Soon,” at least in Japan.
The information comes from Nintendo of Japan’s official website. When translated (Via Kotaku), it says “production is scheduled to end soon,” with a post later defining “in Japan.” There is currently no word on when production of the Nintendo Wii U will be completed in the United States. It should be a shock to no one as Nintendo is now preparing for the release of the Nintendo Switch, scheduled to launch in March 2017.
Right now, the only known first-party Wii U title to release is The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild, which also launches for the Nintendo Switch in the Spring of next year. We reviewed Nintendo’s most recent release for the Wii U, Paper Mario: Color Splash, which held up well, despite having a sub-par battle mechanic. You can read our full review coverage here.
The Nintendo Wii U launched in North America on November 18th, 2012.
